Emil Niehaus passed away on April 7, 1961 at the age of 85. Although he was one of five children, three died as infants and his older brother died in 1925. Emil Niehaus followed in his father's footsteps and worked as a jeweler. He later served on the Board of Directors of Jefferson Bank, where his son-in-law, Peter W. Herzog, served as chairman of the board. Emil suffered a heart attack at his home at the Gatesworth Hotel and died on route to the hospital. The Post-Dispatch ran the following obituary on April 8.
